Today, at the Nordic Game Conference 2014, we were awarded 500.000 Danish Kroner (67.000 EUR) in development support from the Nordic Game Program for the concept of our new IP ‘Hunger’ (working title).
‘Hunger’ is a third-person 3D action adventure game with stealth and exploration elements. A nine-year old girl named Six is kidnapped from her home and taken to work in The Maw – a surreal underwater resort catering to the whims of the powerful elite. When an unexpected twist of fate offers her a chance at freedom, Six takes a journey through the bizarre and unpredictable world of The Maw, and catches a glimpse at the corrupt heart of modern happiness.
“This is not only a huge vote of confidence from the Nordic Game Program expert group,” says CEO Ola Holmdahl. “The grant enables us to explore an idea we are deeply passionate about. Hunger holds fantastic potential, and our job now is to harness that promise into a great experience.

Jack Tretton, Former President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Joins Artificial Intelligence Start-Up Genotaur Inc. Advisory Board
Genotaur Inc., a San Diego-based artificial intelligence development firm with the mission of applying advanced evolutionary computation techniques, cognitive computing, and complementary big-data behavioral analysis technologies to create new forms of intelligent interactive interfaces, today announced that former President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) Jack Tretton has joined the company as a member of its Advisory Board.
"This is a very exciting time for us at Genotaur as we develop new products and scale our business, focusing initially on implementation within the computer entrainment business. Jack’s experience in every area of building and operating consumer products and interactive entertainment companies will help us grow our capabilities at Genotaur,” said Tony Simpson, CEO and President of Genotaur. “We are fortunate to have an executive of Jack’s knowledge and experience base on our team."
Genotaur, a technology start-up, launched a multi-disciplinary research and development project with the goal of creating new forms of intelligent interactive interfaces between humans and computers. The company, a member of the Center for Hybrid Multicore Productivity Research, a National Science Foundation-sponsored laboratory located at the University of California, San Diego, plans to license its ground-breaking innovations for use by a diverse array of strategic partners in the fields of digital entertainment, robotics, early childhood education, action figures, and gaming.
Tretton brings a depth of knowledge about consumer products and interactive entertainment to the Genotaur management team having stepped down from his role with SCEA earlier this year. As a member of the original Sony Computer Entertainment America management team chartered with launching the PlayStation brand in North America in 1995, he brings more than 30 years of consumer product experience to his new role, including 28 years dedicated to the interactive entertainment space. During his tenure at SCEA, he had oversight of all functions of the business in various roles including Director, Vice President, Senior Vice president, EVP, COO, President and CEO.
Tretton played a key role in launching all PlayStation platforms in North America, including the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Network and PlayStation Vita. Tretton led the record-breaking launch of PlayStation 4, which sold more than one million units in 24 hours in North America. During his tenure, Tretton was also responsible for achieving several industry milestones, including surpassing 50 million units sold of PlayStation 2 in North America, and growing the PlayStation business in Canada and Latin America.
Prior to joining SCEA, Tretton held posts at software publishers JVC Musical Industries and Activision, as well as Majers Corporation and Duracell, USA. He also served as the Chairman for the Entertainment Software Association; an organization dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of companies that publish computer and video games.
"Genotaur has an incredibly impressive array of resources and expertise that will greatly enhance the way consumers interact with technology. I look forward to sharing my passion for bringing interactive entertainment and cutting edge technology products to market with the team,” Tretton said.
This will be Tretton’s first advisory board role since leaving Sony earlier this year. He previously held an advisory board role with semiconductor company Portal Player and a board role with private wealth management financial services firm Forefront Capitol. He joins the Genotaur advisory board alongside Jürgen Schultz, PhD, Rob Wyatt and Sheldon Brown, who serves as the chairman and project director.
Hey everyone! Insomniac just recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and as you know, Ratchet & Clank have been a huge part of our studio for the last 12 years (Ratchet even made an appearance in our new anniversary music video).
For Ratchet & Clank’s 10th Anniversary, we were happy that Sony and Idol Minds were able to bring the Ratchet & Clank Trilogy to the PS3, remastered in HD. Many of you had the chance to replay the classic Ratchet games and earn trophies for them, and many more played them for the first time.
Since the HD trilogy was released, one of the biggest requests from many of you was for a version of the Trilogy to come to PlayStation Vita. We’ve heard you loud and clear, and thanks to Sony and Mass Media, the Ratchet & Clank HD Trilogy will be something you can play on the go from 2nd July (and from 9th July in Australia). You can download the whole trilogy for Eur 29.99 via PlayStation Store or pick up a copy at your favourite retailer.
We’re really excited by how well the PS Vita port of the HD Trilogy has turned out. It looks amazing and is a terrific way to play the classic Ratchet & Clank adventures. We can’t wait for you to get your hands on it and take Ratchet with you wherever you may go.
PlayStation Plus free games for June in the US & Europe announced
Europe - PlayStation Plus in June: NBA 2K14, Trine 2, Dragon’s Crown, Pixeljunk, more
Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th anniversary. It’s evolved a great deal since its inception, providing our PS Plus members with exclusive discounts, beta access and even select games early, as well as, of course, great games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we’ve built a really strong global community of gamers.
PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast and Don’t Starve. Since we are always looking to continue the evolution of PS Plus as a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games each month within the Instant Game Collection. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will now have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.
Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Wednesday of the month, and will be free for that month, until the first Wednesday of the following month.
In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.
Anyway, without further ado, read on to find out what’s coming to the service next month.
New for PlayStation 4
First up this month on PS4 comes a real gem from the incredible development teams at Q-Games and Double 11. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate is a twin stick shooter that is as much about blasting things as it is about exploration and puzzle-solving.
Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate combines the campaigns of Shooter 1 and 2 into a single package with new features and optimisations. It’s a highly addictive game and with a platinum trophy to collect I’m certain this will keep you entertained throughout June.
Next up this month on PS4, let your imagination run wild in a beautiful fairy-tale land, avoiding danger at every turn as you solve mysterious puzzles in the award-winning Trine 2: The Complete Story. Don’t forget, you can take advantage of co-op multiplayer for up to three players in this epic adventure so grab your friends and get online.
New for PlayStation 3
First up on PS3 this month, NBA 2K14 slam dunks its way onto PlayStation Plus. IGN believe this to be the best basketball simulator ever giving it a whopping 8.9 out of 10 and I won’t disagree! To ensure you make the most of your game, get online and face off against rival squads.
Next up on PS3 is the Cross-Buy psychological survival horror Lone Survivor Director’s Cut. You play as a masked protagonist who must escape from a city ravaged by disease. Starving and exhausted, you begin to question how much of what you see is even real.
The choice of how to survive is up to you. Sneak through without firing a single shot, or kill everything in your path. Search for survivors, or try to escape the city alone. Look after your mental health, or descend into madness…
New for PS Vita
Dragon’s Crown is your first offering this month on PS Vita. Be prepared to be thrust into a fantastical medieval world packed with labyrinthine dungeons to explore, vile monstrosities to smite, and nearly endless online adventure. Your mission is to dive into the dank underworld, uncovering treasure and strengthening your mettle as you unlock the secret behind the ancient dragon threatening the world.
Last but certainly not least make sure you pick up the electrifying Surge Deluxe from the team at Futurelab. This is a highly addictive block matching puzzle game where you need to be lightning fast to compete!
Expanded from the original release of Surge, this Deluxe version adds in a new Combiner block for higher multiplayers in strategic play and a new Chain Linker block for longer chain connections! Trust us – this one is very hard to put down.
North America - PlayStation Plus – 2 Titles Per Month for PS4, PS3, PS Vita
Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.
The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.
Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free.
Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.
Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.
Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup!
Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.
On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.
Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.
