PlayStation Plus free games for December announced

PS Plus: Preview December’s Free Game Lineup

The weather is getting colder, which means two things: 1) It’s time for delicious food and 2) it’s time to hibernate with videogames. We’re here to help keep you gaming this winter with December’s free PlayStation Plus titles.

You can keep warm but stay social with Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition, a fighting game that lets you finally figure out which DC heroes & villains would win in a fight, and Secret Ponchos, a wild west arcade-style duel where you’ll face off against friends or team up to take down other players.

Catch up on the Hitman series with Hitman HD Trilogy, which includes Hitman 2: Silent Assassins, Contracts and Blood Money, and experience the bizarre yet beloved Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut.

PS Vita owners get two Space Invaders-inspired games this month: Final Horizon and Titan Attacks. Fight off waves of space robots (they have spider tanks, gross) in tower defense title Final Horizon, or grab Titan Attacks!, which focuses on arcade-style gameplay but features some interesting elements that kick gameplay up a notch.

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting December 2nd. If you want to see these titles in action, check out the video above.

Sony teases 'Emagon' reveal for December 5 with mysterious trailer

Translation: "20 years. It’s a lot of time. Look around you and see everything you’ve obtained. You’ve ruled in infinite places, you’ve conquered and freed. You’ve built and destroyed. You’ve been the light against the darkness. However, this time is different. This time, it’s real. For the first time, your actions have real consequences. They need your help. I know you can hear them. The power to change things is in your hands."

EMAGON – Discover the first trailer of Playstation's best hidden secret!

As you know, PlayStation is 20 years old this week. This is a very special day for us, as we never thought we’d get this far when we released our beloved PSone back in 1994. So we want to offer something for the occasion.

However, to know what it is, you’ll have to wait. Above, you can see a mysterious trailer labeled ‘EMAGON’ and a date: December 5. That day, you will know our best kept secret.

Close Castles, an RTS from the creator of Threes, is coming to PS4

Close Castles Coming to PS4, Play at PS Experience

I have a love/hate relationship with real time strategy games. I love them, but I hate playing them.

Let’s face it: RTSes are miserable pain engines designed to give players the worst possible experience. They’re kind of fun (though deeply stressful) right up until the first interaction with another player and then it’s all downhill for the next forty-or-so minutes. You play until someone gives up. They are lonely exercises in sadomasochism. Anyway hello. My name is Asher Vollmer and I intend to fix all that with my new game, Close Castles.

I made Threes because I love small, minimalist games. Close Castles is no different. The games are incredibly quick: they average around three minutes each on the fastest game speed. Buliding the game for a controller has inspired me to make the controls as simple as possible. You move your cursor around the field and press a button to build structures. What you build and where you build it will determine you and your opponent’s collective fate.

The game is built for local multiplayer, so there’s no hidden information. This means that the game feels a lot more like a fighting game at higher levels. It becomes about reading your opponent and turning the tiny cracks in their strategy into a crumbling pile of failure / rubble. This game is all about destroying buildings, so there’s a lot of rubble in it.

The premise of Close Castles is simple: You and your greatest rival have built your castles WAY too close to each other. Your job is to build up your kingdom (despite the cramped quarters) while simultaneously sending out your loyal citizens to tear down the enemy’s vulnerable castle. We plan to have an amazing, harrowing story that somehow justifies the fact that all these castles were built in such proximity.

Did I mention the game is cute as heck? I’ve teamed up with Dominique Ferland, one of the most talented cutie-based artists in the world. He manages to create these incredible settings and characters that are simultaneously iconic and appealing and evocative as heck. I’m proud to be working alongside him to make this brutally strategic game look even remotely approachable.

Close Castles will be coming to consoles some time in 2015. But if you’re looking to play the game AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE come visit us at PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas! We’ll be crushing castles all weekend!

Rocket League coming to PS4 in spring 2015

Rocket League Coming to PS4, PlayStation Experience

It was 2008 when the team here at Psyonix first combined soccer with racing and released the original Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars on PS3. Now, after six years of dedicated community feedback and more than two million downloads, our long-awaited sequel, Rocket League, is headed to PS4 this spring!

For us, Rocket League is more than just a sequel — it’s also a chance to improve on the first Battle-Cars in nearly every possible way, including:

• Improved physics, faster gameplay, and infinitely better visuals
• An all-new Season Mode with unlockable items, multiple arenas, and more
• The return of 2-, 3- and 4-player split-screen
• More vehicles, new stadiums, and more than 100 customization items
• Dedicated gameplay servers
• A broadcast-quality replay feature that enables players to create their own custom replays of entire games from any camera angle they want
• Even more surprises that we’ll reveal closer to release

But wait, there’s more! We’re also excited to announce that Rocket League will debut on PS4 at the PlayStation Experience this weekend in Las Vegas, December 6 and 7!

Drop by our location at Booth I13 and you’ll be able to enjoy four-player split-screen firsthand, while also earning a shot at winning one of the cool, show-exclusive Rocket League shirts.

Distance coming to PlayStation 4 in 2015

Can You Survive the Distance on PS4?

Hi there! My name is Jordan Hemenway and I’m one of the developers at Refract, a Seattle-based indie studio. I’m excited to finally unveil that we’re bringing our survival racer Distance to PS4 in 2015, and you’ll be able to play it at PlayStation Experience this weekend!

Distance is what we’re calling a survival racing game. It takes the intense action of arcade racing and places it in an explorable, atmospheric world. The environments are mysterious and deadly with treacherous obstacles around every corner. Instead of doing laps on a loop, you’ll be trying to survive from point A to point B.

Fortunately you control a unique car that allows you to boost, jump, rotate, and even fly. Instead of being constrained to the track, you can break away at any point and find your own path. You can even drive upside down or on buildings and walls parkour-style if you like.

Multiplayer takes this to the next level. To overtake your opponents you’ll have to use all of the car’s abilities at your disposal. For example, in Sprint mode it’s a quick dash to the finish with the goal being the fastest time. As you boost, your car’s core systems will begin to overheat, so to maintain the fastest speed you’ll have to land tricks (like backflips or barrel rolls) to stay cool.

In Reverse Tag mode you want to remain “it” for as long as possible. As other players start closing in you might want to scale a building for a quick escape, or dive bomb from a high point to use gravity to your advantage. Using car rotation to transition out of flight might be the best way to keep your momentum and stay in the lead.

The world has a mysterious history, and as you explore you’ll be able to uncover pieces of its past. Adventure mode takes you through a short story where you incrementally earn each of the car’s abilities and use them to survive the increasingly deadly environment.

Crafting a story within a racing game has been one of the most enjoyable parts of the development so far. Without spoiling too much, we’re incredibly excited to have you discover the dark mysteries of this world.

All of us at Refract hope to see you at PlayStation Experience! For more info about our ongoing development and to sign up for our newsletter simply visit Distance’s website here.

Loadout hits PS4 on December 16

Loadout Launches December 16th, Play at PS Experience

Hey, PlayStation fans! Greg Bauman here from Edge of Reality, the lunatics behind Loadout. Last week, we told you that Loadout was going to launch on PS4 in the near future, but today I’m here to tell you just how near the future is: you’ll be able to download and play Loadout for free via PlayStation Store on Tuesday, December 16th, 2014.

We’ve put together a launch trailer that shows off all the incredible stuff that PS4 players are going to get this month. Seriously, we’ve got a lot in store for everyone. It’s not just the billions of guns — we’d feel downright rude if we weren’t including the billions of guns. No, there’s way more that we’ve packed into Loadout. Take a look at some of it here… and pay attention near the end for an extra treat!

We agonized for weeks over what we ought to get you guys for the holidays. I mean, we were already giving you all these guns and all the ammo to go with them — so what do you get for the PlayStation fan who has everything? That’s when it hit us: you help them to be a PlayStation fan.

The launch of Loadout on PS4 is going to include the SuperFan Bonus Pack for PlayStation Plus members as a free gift from us to you! Slather up your character with some stylish and only slightly radioactive body paint in the classic PS4-themed blue and whites. Heck, if you get some red splattered in there — just saying, it’s a possibility — it becomes patriotic. See, it works on lots of levels!

Speaking of Super Fans, we’re even inviting a bunch of PlayStation 4 fans to go hands-on with the game at PlayStation Experience this weekend! Loadout will be there in Las Vegas alongside a bunch of other incredible upcoming PS4 titles. You can join us at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, where we’ll be meeting and greeting fans, comparing gun choices, arguing who could beat who in a fight, and showing off Loadout on PS4 for the first time.

Seriously, is there any more appropriate venue for us to be debuting Loadout on PS4 than Las Vegas? Our game is as shiny and exciting as any casino; it’s just that instead of shooting craps, you shoot the crap out of everyone. Add a horde of hardcore PS4 fans into the mix for PlayStation Experience, and I think the odds are pretty great for us to all have a wonderful time.

For everyone who can’t join us in Vegas, you’ll be able to experience Loadout in just about two weeks, rendered in all the gruesome detail that PS4 can provide. We can’t wait to see all of you running around in our world.

So, if you’re looking to try Loadout for yourself, we hope to see you this weekend in Vegas. If you can’t make it, we’ll miss you, but the game will be out pretty soon after that. We won’t miss you anymore at that point; we’ll be using laser-guided bouncy rockets by then.

To sum up: free gift for PlayStation Plus, friend-annihilating fun times, and a gigantic pile of different gun combinations, all showing up on your PS4 on December 16th, just in time for the season of giving away all of your ammo at high speed.

See you at PlayStation Experience!

Resident Evil: Revelations 2, Towerfall and more coming to PS Vita

It’s Vita Time! Third Party Production Bringing More Titles to PS Vita

Hey PlayStation Fans,

Throughout 2014, the Third Party Production team has been working with our partners across the game industry to bring all kinds of exciting, diverse and fun titles to our favorite portable powerhouse.

During the PlayStation Experience keynote in Las Vegas, we announced some terrific new titles for the Vita: the legendary classics Suikoden I & II, the single screen competitive chaos of Towerfall: Ascension, the gorgeous Tactical Strategy RPG The Banner Saga, the ludicrous suburban Octopus simulator Octodad: Dadliest Catch, the craziest time traveling shooter of all time, Super Time Force Ultra and the latest entry in the legendary shambling zombie franchise, Resident Evil Revelations 2. All this and that’s not even including all the other great Vita content we announced, like, Bastion, Darkest Dungeon, Severed, Shovel Knight and Broken Age: the Complete Adventure.

Whether you’re into twitchy arcade action, deep strategy games with epic tales, or clumsy mollusks that have trouble with the most basic of tasks, there’s never been a better time to own a Vita. Check out more about the exciting games coming to my favorite video game machine Q1 2015

Super Time Force Ultra (PS4/Vita)

Are side-scrolling platformer/shooters too difficult for you? Too bad because Capy Games’ Super Time Force Ultra isn’t going to hold your hand through its bite-sized but intense levels. Luckily, you can rewind time, bring back fallen characters, and add their previous runs to your current one for absurd extra firepower (or just a little help to get past timing-based obstacles).

The just-announced Vita edition comes with bonus content like extra playable characters, including our very own Shuhei Yoshida, president of Worldwide Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment.

Towerfall: Ascension (PS4/Vita)

Perhaps shooting your friends in the head is more your style? In Towerfall, up to four players compete in arena-based combat, launching super-powered arrows at each other until only one (or one team) survives. It’s fast and addicting, and on the Vita! Along with Towerfall Ascension the new Dark World expansion content with new characters, levels, and power-ups will also be available for both Vita and PS4!

The Banner Saga (PS4/Vita)

The critically acclaimed strategy role-playing game is coming to the Vita. The Banner Saga features beautiful, hand-drawn art and animations; deep, tactical combat; and an epic story influenced by Viking legends that players can shape with their choices.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch (PS4/Vita)

Our eight-legged — and intentionally difficult to control — hero is back for the Vita, sloppily knocking over everything in his path as he attempts to complete normal, everyday tasks (like mowing the lawn or going grocery shopping). Octodad just wants to be a normal guy, after all, and live peacefully with his human wife and kids in this lighthearted and hilarious adventure.

Broken Age (PS4)

The Complete Adventure is a love letter to the classic adventure games of the 90s, written by the creator of some of those famous games, Tim Schafer. The tiny title that became a Kickstarter juggernaut features two characters in independent, parallel stories—Vella, a young woman destined to be sacrificed to a giant monster and Shay, a young man coddled and overprotected on a mysterious space ship. Both Vella and Shay attempt to change their fate, but doing so sends their respective stories on a crash course into each other.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 (PS4/Vita)

Famous series protagonist Claire Redfield returns (and goes portable) in the latest release in the Revelations Franchise! The Vita version is being produced and digitally published by Third Party Production

Darkest Dungeon (PS4/Vita)

Darkest Dungeon focuses on the humanity and psychological vulnerability of the heroes and asks: What emotional toll does a life of adventure take? It is a game about hard trade-offs, nearly certain demise, and heroic acts. Prepare to experience an RPG like nothing you have played before.

Suikoden I & II (PS3/Vita)

The legendary PS1 RPGs are finally coming out West as Suikoden I & II make their PS1 Classic debut on Vita (and PS3) this coming Tuesday, December 9th thanks to our good friends at Konami and countless #BuildingTheList requests!

All of these titles will be released throughout the Spring of 2015. No Matter where you play and no matter what kind of games you love the Vita’s got something for everyone!

Orcs Must Die! Unchained Coming to PS4

Orcs Must Die! is Invading PlayStation for the First Time!

You hear that sound? That dull, rhythmic pounding you can feel in your knickers? That’s the sound of hundreds of orc axes, fists, and foreheads beating against the mighty PS4 Fortress doors. Today at the , we announced that Orcs Must Die! is coming back to consoles when the 5v5 Orcs Must Die! Unchained crashes the gates of the PS4 in 2015!

Go ahead. Read that again if you need to.

When the first OMD was released, players were dropped into the role of the overly-confident and woefully ill-prepared War Mage to help save his world from an army of invading orcs. If you played the first game, you know that the War Mage didn’t so much win as he just sort of tore the whole magical institution thing to the ground. Look, the point is, the orcs weren’t invading anymore. So it still counts. By the time we catch up to Unchained, the rifts are open again, the magic is back, and the War Mage isn’t the only guy with special powers anymore.

Orcs Must Die! Unchained is a Fortress Siege game that blends some of our favorite elements of tower defense games, third person shooters, and all things funny. OMDU is the series’ first foray onto PlayStation, and PlayStation players will start huge online multiplayer fights for control of the rifts. Collect digital cards in-game and build your own custom decks of minions, traps, and spells. Level up your heroic Weaver abilities, lead your armies into enemy rifts, or build the best trap killbox to defend your own fortresses from mountains of mindless minions. That’s right – this fight is so big that we can’t describe it without alliteration.

Orcs Must Die! Unchained will be coming to PS4 in 2015 and we can’t wait for you all to get your hands on it. Everyone has a little – or a lot of – orc killing in them and we look forward to everyone jumping in and defending the rifts!

The Forest Coming to PlayStation 4

The Forest: Open-World Survival Horror Comes to PlayStation

Think back to your childhood days: playing outside, building a fort, skipping a stone on a lake… now add cannibals who want to tear you apart.

This is ‘The Forest’ and it’s on its way to PS4.

There are no missions, no NPC’s telling you what to do and no text in the middle of the screen telling you to ‘Follow.’ You know those parts in games where some character is yelling at you, telling you what to do and to do it faster? Those moments’ drive us crazy. When we’re in a game world we want to choose what we do and how we do it. This has been the driving force behind all the decisions we make. What would give players the most freedom and options. We think the best stories in games are the ones that occur on their own, the ones you experience naturally in the world.

Something we’ve learned over the past 6 months is that people love to share their gameplay experiences, as well as watch other people’s playthroughs. Using the PS4 Share feature makes this even easier for players. People can show off the bases they have built, the places they’ve encountered or just how many trees they’ve cut down. In multiplayer, hearing the crackling walkie-talkie out of the dual shock controller adds an extra layer of realism, and brings players deeper into the experience.

Building the game alongside the public has been an important part of our process. The community online has contributed ideas and suggestions that have massively improved the game already and will continue to as we move towards a final release.

Giant Sparrow announces What Remains of Edith Finch for PS4

Announcing our next game: What Remains of Edith Finch

We’ve been working on our next game for the last two years but today is the first time we’re able to start talking about it. We’re super excited!

It’s called What Remains of Edith Finch and it’s a collection of short stories about a cursed family in Washington State.

Each story is about a different member of the Finch family and every story ends with that family member’s death. The stories are all played from a first-person perspective but the gameplay, the setting and the tone of the stories are all quite different, mirroring the family members themselves. As a player you’ll follow Edith Finch as she explores the history of her family and tries to figure out why she’s the last Finch left alive.

On the surface our new game looks pretty different from our first one. For The Unfinished Swan our goal was to evoke the awe and wonder of classic children’s books. With What Remains of Edith Finch we’re creating an experience that feels like opening a book of short stories and particularly the genre of Weird Fiction. But I think both games have a very similar core: what it feels like to be a child, encountering forces beyond your ability to understand or control.

Thank you to all our fans for being so patient for the last two years! We’re not sure yet when the game will be released but we’re expecting sometime in 2016. It’ll be available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.

Lots more to come!
