NUSAJAYA: THE final draft of the Johor sports development blueprint till 2030 will be announced by the Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani next month.State youth and sports committee chairman Md Jais Sarday said the development will focus on three main issues, namely, athlete development, inculcating sports culture and developing sports as an industry.Speaking to reporters at the Medini Mall here last Tuesday, Md Jais said the blueprint was aimed at developing sports for youths in Iskandar Malaysia.On another matter, Md Jais said a total of 275 futsal courts have been built so far, with 177 and 98 under the Ninth and Tenth Malaysia Plans respectively.A commercial area will be developed for sports development, and these shops will be rented out to generate income for the Johor Stadium Corporation for facility maintenance, he said.Meanwhile, Md Jais said the state is gearing up to host Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2018 and is aiming to host the Hockey World Cup in the same year."Larkin will be developed into a sports hub called Larkin Arena."We hope to not only produce outstanding athletes but for Johor to be a destination for world-class events."Larkin Arena, upon completion in 2018, will have an indoor stadium, futsal court, bowling alley, lawn bowl field, skateboarding, rock climbing, and commercial areas."The existing badminton and basketball courts will also be upgraded," Md Jais said.He added that an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a shooting range, a multi-purpose complex for football, rugby, netball and tennis tournament will also be built in Skudai Kiri, an area next to a beach.
