Terra Battle tops two million downloads, console versions development now a go
Mistwalker's Tactical RPG Terra Battle Surpasses 2 Million Downloads Worldwide
Mistwalker Corporation announced today that its popular mobile role playing game Terra Battle recently exceeded 2 million downloads across all platforms and territories since its October 2014 launch. As part of the original Download Starter campaign, the milestone means that the company will begin development on Terra Battle's console version. Details on the title will be released at a later date.
The company also announced the continuation of the Download Starter campaign as plans for future milestone rewards are in the works. As part of the expanded Download Starter campaign, to celebrate 2 million downloads and the game's success to date, a special in-game event will run April 30-May 5, rewarding players with a single energy per day.
"We are truly humbled to see Terra Battle achieve this milestone. As every player download expanded both the scope of our game and our imagination to create a richer experience for the fans," said Hironobu Sakaguchi, Mistwalker founder and recent GDC Lifetime Achievement recipient. "With the console game of Terra Battle underway and the next phase of the Download Starter campaign in motion, we are eager to see how the game will evolve in the coming months."
Finally, Mistwalker provided two updates to earlier milestones from the Download Starter campaign. Starting today at 5PM PDT, the earlier live concert recording will be available in-game via the options menu. Players will be able to toggle between the original soundtrack and the new live soundtrack. The upcoming art book will be released in Japan on May 22. (Plans to release the book in additional territories is pending.)

Lost Planet 3 developer Spark Unlimited no longer making games, lays off employees
Los Angeles-based Spark Unlimited, the developer behind Lost Planet 3, Legendary and Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, is no longer making games and has laid off all of its employees, a former employee of the company told Polygon today.
Spark Unlimited's closure was first noticed by a NeoGAF forum member who spotted the company's assets up for sale on asset liquidation site CMA Auctions.
John Butrovich, chief technical officer at Spark Unlimited, confirmed to Polygon that "it's the end of Spark as a game developer." Principal members of the studio "have decided to move on to other things," Butrovich said, and confirmed that Spark Unlimited co-founder Craig Allen resigned as president and CEO from the company late last year "to pursue other ventures and interests."
Butrovich said that Spark's in-development free-to-play game was canceled, as were other projects at the studio, leading to the company shutting down game development. Spark Unlimited still has ongoing revenue streams, Butrovich said, including a 2014 movie called Nightmare Code that the company produced, which are going to a trustee.
According to Butrovich, it sounds like former Spark Unlimited principals and employees will continue to work together on other projects outside of video games.
Spark Unlimited was founded in 2002, and released its first game, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, in 2004. Its most recent release was last year's poorly received action game Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z.
Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition Announced for PS4
Fall into the dream world of Abyss Odyssey — This time on PlayStation 4!
With the addition of an online PvP mode, as well as upgraded graphics and an overall smoother play experience, PlayStation 4 owners will truly see the best version of this visually stunning action adventure game!
From indie Chilean developer ACE Team comes Abyss Odyssey, an Art Nouveau-styled, side-scrolling action adventure game featuring a complex fighting engine in procedurally generated levels that destine its three warriors to battle for an eternity. Chain your attack and release a flurry of blows in order to survive what lies beneath.
About
In Abyss Odyssey: Extended Dream Edition, the side-scrolling levels never play out the same way twice – be it the monsters they are filled with, the locations of life-saving merchants, or the pathways between levels. There are only two constants in Abyss Odyssey: a great evil awaits at the bottom of the pit, and succeed or die, the nightmare will continue. But the enemies in the abyss are no mere fodder – each one has a complex set of moves. They also have a weakness: almost every enemy can be possessed and controlled by the player….
Features
• Technically Deep – Since combat is the core of the game, ACE Team specifically focused on implementing fighting game mechanics into the action. Dodge-cancels and other demanding techniques will unlock the warriors’ true powers in combat.
• A New Nightmare – Abyss Odyssey veterans can double-down on the challenge with the Nightmare difficulty level, where enemies move quicker, hit harder, and well…if you aren’t confident in your combos, you should get used to seeing the void room.
• New Enemies – A familiar face returns – Golem from Zeno Clash makes an appearance as a new mini-boss! Also brand new to consoles are the Tirana mini-boss, the White Phantom, and the Warlock Titan – a unique final boss who you might encounter fighting alongside one the original Warlock’s many forms.
• The Infinite Abyss – Procedurally generated levels will keep the three warriors battling for eternity.
• Meta Odyssey – At the bottom of the abyss is the Warlock. Once the community collectively beats a boss a certain number of times, the boss changes. The Extended Dream Edition has all the recent PC updates to the Warlock, but a whole new community to try and unlock each mask!
• Know Thy Enemy - Possess almost any enemy in the game to use its skills and combat abilities… each foe is as technically complex as the main warriors.
• ACE Developed - From the independent team behind some of the most boldly creative, aesthetic titles: the Zeno Clash Series and Rock of Ages.
尽管目前所知的细节并不多,不过本作似乎是以 PvP 为取向的游戏,而官方也表示这款作品将会于 6 月率先登陆 Steam 平台,并在稍后于 PS4 与 XBOX ONE 上发行。
ARK: Survival Evolved – A New Breed of Open-World Dinosaur Adventure is Coming
Independent developer Studio Wildcard has pulled back the curtains on its Jurassic creation today with the announcement of ARK: Survival Evolved, an open-world dinosaur survival game where players fight for every breath amongst the most ferocious creatures to ever walk the earth. In development for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC, Mac, and Linux, ARK: Survival Evolved will launch on Steam’s Early Access program June 2, 2015, for survivors to begin exploring the vast, formidable environment and its many secrets.
Powered by Unreal Engine 4, ARK: Survival Evolved takes on the survival genre with a unique blend of emergent multiplayer cooperation and competition. Players awake naked and starving on the beach of a mysterious island among a herd of other confused humans. On ARK, they must then hunt, harvest, craft, research technology, and build shelters to protect against scorching days, freezing nights, volatile weather systems, dangerous wildlife, and potential enemies.
Use cunning strategy and tactics to tame and ride the many dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the dynamic, persistent ecosystems across land, sea, air, and even underground. Build your character’s strengths and gain items, skills, and pet creatures using in-depth role-playing systems. Start a tribe with hundreds of other players to survive and dominate competing tribes...and ultimately discover the ARK’s true purpose.
“ARK taps into the scale, size, and wildly unpredictable nature of the dinosaur eras like no other game before it, then pairs it with the wonders of exploration and technological discovery,” said Jesse Rapczak, co-founder and co-creative director, Studio Wildcard. “We’re particularly excited to bring ARK to consoles, as open-world survival gameplay is typically found solely in PC games.”
Tame one of 60 amazing dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts, including gargantuan creatures on a scale never before seen in video games! Fly a Pterodactyl squadron over the snow-capped mountains, race through the deep jungle with your pack of trained Raptors, tromp through a fortified enemy base along a convoy of gigantic Brontosaurus, or chase down prey on the back of a raging T-Rex. Players will quickly learn that dinosaurs aren’t the only dangerous creatures on the island. Other players are organizing rebel tribes to accumulate resources, experience, re-spawn points, and to construct sprawling villages and cities, with technology spanning the primitive stone-age to the modern electric-powered era and beyond. And they will fight to destroy anything they see as a threat.
ARK: Survival Evolved will launch in early 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One via the ID@Xbox program and Steam, including Oculus Rift VR support and a thorough integration of Steam community features such as Steam Economy and Steam Workshop for custom maps and mods. The world of ARK is designed to be player-oriented and ever-expanding!

Imageepoch Have Begun Bankruptcy Procedures
While there still hasn’t been any word on the disappearance of Imageepoch CEO Ryoei Mikage, it’s been revealed that the company, alongside their affiliate company Smile Online Games, filed for bankruptcy earlier this month, according to a report from corporate research provider Teikoku Databank.
The report indicates that Imageepoch and Smile Online Games began bankruptcy procedures on May 7th at the Tokyo District Court. The case will be administrated by a lawyer named Tsuyoshi Nakano. The two companies will have until June 4th to report their credit, and are scheduled to have a property advisory meeting on July 30th at 10am JPT.
Since its founding as a development company in 2004, Imageepoch have produced titles such as Time and Eternity, 7th Dragon, Black Rock Shooter: The Game, and more. The developers boasted a 1.7 billion yen of profit, which was revealed during their annual income back in September 2011.
In two years, the company saw a significant drop in profits, as the annual income figure dropped down to 400 million yen by September 2013, largely due to problems regarding high development costs and sales not going as expected.
Without being able to make a recovery, Imageepoch have stopped a substantial amount of their activities. At the moment, Teikoku Databank reports that Imageepoch are in a debt of around 1.1 billion yen that is owed to about 43 different creditors. Meanwhile, affiliate company Smile Online Games is in debt of 3 million yen owed to five creditors. Together, they’re in a debt of 1.103 billion yen between the two companies.
While this isn’t a confirmation by any means, it’s safe to assume that Imageepoch’s vast debt has something to do with the company CEO Ryoei Mikage’s sudden disappearance. You can read more about that in our earlier report.
